A Peak Into Our Past

September 19, 2010 Leave a comment

Ben Wisdom, a virtual acquaintance that I follow on Google Reader, shared the link to this photo collection quite a while back. Many (many, many) weeks went by before I finally took the time to go to the link to view the collection. I kept saving the link in Google Reader until I finally got around to it.

The collection, titled “Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943“,  offers a brief glimpse into our past. It is a an interesting view into how things were for some folks in America in the not so distant past. My parents were children and teens during this time, so this is part of their experience. I hope you enjoy it.

Prayer For Married Persons

August 4, 2009 Leave a comment

A daily prayer for couples; perhaps this could also be a prayer for those considering marriage to meditate upon.

O merciful God, we beseech You ever to remind us that the married state is holy, and that we must keep it so;

Grant us Your grace, that we may continue in faithfulness and love;

Increase in us the spirit of mutual understanding and trust, that no quarrel or strife may come between us;

Grant us Your blessings, that we may stand before our fellows and in Your sight as an ideal family;

And finally, by Your mercy, account us worthy of everlasting life: for You are our sanctification, and to You we ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

Come and Go Blues

Things come and things go – desires, tastes, jobs, aches, opportunities, blogs. People.

Some comings make us happy, others sad. Same with goings.

Blood is thicker than water.

So what? So is mud, motor oil, and a whole host of other things. But I wouldn’t want these other things coursing through my veins.

And what does one have to do with the other? Welllll….since you asked.

Nuttin’. Unless….. Do you ever wish sometimes that those things that don’t go, would? That you would be so much better off if you could control and dictate what comes & what goes? If you have, then maybe you’ve even thought about this where your blood is concerned, as in where the blood that is coursing through your body came from. Or more specifically, who it came from.

Can’t change that. Try as hard as you like, will as hard as you want; its source will not be changed. Deny it, if you like, if you insist. Change your name, change your residence. But it doesn’t change “it”. Never has. Never will.

As the great philosopher, Anonymous, once said, “you can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your family.”

God, in His infinite Wisdom, determined for each one of us who we need to be bound to in this lifetime. We don’t always know why, but He would like for us to figure that out, I do believe. Figure it out, accept it, survive it, and even thrive in it.

Talk about your tall orders….
